What to include in a BOP control unit RFQ

Define the BOP arrangement, hydraulic demand, control locations and required documentation before comparing equipment quotations.

Start with the stack and the operating requirement.

A BOP control unit enquiry should describe the equipment it will operate. A model name or an accumulator-volume figure alone is not enough to define a suitable package. Provide the stack arrangement, the hydraulic functions and the operating information available from the BOP equipment documents.

Five groups of information to prepare.

  1. BOP configuration: identify the annular preventer, ram preventers and other functions to be controlled. Include actuator volumes and required operating pressures where available.
  2. Hydraulic demand: describe the operating sequence and any project sizing or reserve requirements. Ask for the proposed accumulator/pumping configuration and its stated design basis.
  3. Utilities: specify voltage, frequency, compressed-air pressure and available air capacity. Explain any backup-power expectations.
  4. Control locations: identify the local panel, driller’s station, remote locations and the required control-line lengths and interfaces.
  5. Environment and documents: state temperature, installation constraints, hazardous-area requirements, standards and inspection records required by the project.

Separate the unit from the full package.

Make clear whether the RFQ covers only the control unit or also includes the BOP stack, hoses, cables, remote stations, installation support, spares or other equipment. Ask suppliers to show inclusions and exclusions in a comparable way.

Read certification in its actual scope.

If your project requires API-related or other certification, request the applicable document, its holder, stated equipment scope and validity. Referencing a standard in a specification and holding a certification are different statements.

A useful attachment set.

Include a stack diagram, actuator information, utility details, layout constraints and the project’s document/inspection requirements. If the enquiry is a replacement, add nameplate photographs and the existing control schematic.

Explore OEIL well control equipment and send your requirement. Product catalog values are reference configurations; the offered package should be confirmed for your actual application.
