How to identify pumps, valves and replacement parts

A complete model code, connection details and working conditions make a replacement enquiry more reliable than a photograph alone.

Start with the full identity of the item.

For a pump, valve or spare part, send the complete model code and clear photographs of the nameplate. Include suffixes, serial numbers and part references where they are available. Similar-looking items can have different functions, connections, materials or pressure limits.

Describe the function and operating conditions.

State what the component does in the circuit and provide the working pressure, temperature, medium and required flow. For a pump, include the required flow at the target pressure and the available drive-air supply. For a directional valve, include the circuit symbol, positions, ways and center condition.

Connections and dimensions matter.

  • Identify the port size and thread or connection standard.
  • Provide a dimension drawing or the key installation dimensions.
  • Show port markings, flow direction and mounting orientation.
  • State the required material, seals and any compatibility restrictions.
  • Identify whether the request is for a complete component, a repair kit or an individual part.

Use photographs as supporting evidence.

Provide an overall view, a readable nameplate, the connection faces and any identifying markings. A photograph can guide identification, but it should not be treated as proof of interchangeability. The offered replacement needs a defined model and matching technical scope.

Ask for the proposed replacement details.

When reviewing a quotation, check the complete offered code, function, working limits, dimensions, connections and included parts. If a substitute is proposed, ask for the technical differences rather than relying on a general statement that the parts are equivalent.
